Summer is here and even if you don’t plan to relocate any time soon, if you have a vacation coming up, make sure that you’re not going somewhere that is on this list of countries with travel warnings! Check out what new travel warnings the US Department of State have added to the list.
May 5th: Syria- As a reminder that Syria is in a volatile state is a new warning recommending that all US citizens depart Syria immediately and warning against any new travel to Syria.
May 6th: Nigeria- Citizens should be aware of the risk associated with travel to Nigeria and avoid all travel to Adamawa, Borno and Yobe states because of the emergency proclamation for those three states from the Government of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
May 13th: Central African Republic (CAR)- Warning against travel to CAR is in place, along with the recommendation of any US citizens currently in CAR returning home on any remaining commercial flights. Keep in mind the US Embassy Bangui is not able to provide service as they suspended operations in December 2012.
May 17th: Kenya- Due to recent terrorist threats and the increased rate of violence, those who travel to Kenya should be aware of potential dangers. Travelers should evaluate their safety before heading to Kenya.
May 19th: Philippines- Travelers should be aware of the dangers to the Philippines due to the continued threats of terrorism and insurgent activities. Those going to the Sulu Archipelago, the island of Mindanao, and in the Southern Sulu Sea area should be especially cautious.
May 20th: North Korea- Travel to North Korea is strongly discouraged due to the risk of arbitrary arrest and detention of US citizens.
May 22nd: Iran- Elements within Iran still remain hostile. Before traveling to Iran, individuals should carefully consider the risk. Dual Iranian-American citizens will want to be aware that they may experience difficulty departing Iran.
May 27th: Libya- Travel to Libya is highly discouraged and those currently in Libya are strongly encouraged to depart immediately due to the unpredictable and unstable security situation.
May 28th: Thailand- Non-essential travel to Thailand should be reconsidered. Current political and social unrest have resulted in restrictions on internal movements, including a nighttime curfew throughout Thailand.
May 29th: 2014 Hurricane and Typhoon Season- Travelers beware that it is now hurricane season for the Atlantic and Pacific Oceans, the Caribbean and the Gulf of Mexico. Take this into consideration when planning travel.
