No matter where in the world they are traveling to or where they are from, expats are often plagued with the same problem of finding a medical insurance plan that will fit their needs.
Expats who have already decided to purchase a Global Medical plan will next have to decide which level they will buy: Silver, Gold, Gold Plus or Platinum. With this many options, sometimes it can be confusing to pick out the best one for you and your family, especially since the Global Medical plan is one that will follow you around the world, throughout your lifetime. This is why we have created a guide to help expats around the world, including you, determine which Global Medical plan level will fit your lifestyle best.
We will start with the basics. The Silver level is a good level option if you are looking for a plan that will fit inside your budget and still give you the treatment you need, up to the lifetime maximum of $5,000,000. You will have coverage for hospitalization, doctor visits, emergency medical evacuation, repatriation of remains, and child wellness for any dependent children under the age of 18.
The Gold level grants more benefits to individuals than the Silver level; however, the benefits are reduced after three years. This means that if you are looking for a plan for three years or less but that still has the comprehensive coverage of a major medical plan, the gold level might be your answer when trying to decide which Global Medical plan level is right for you. If you will need your coverage for more than three years, one of the other levels might suit your needs better. If not, you can enjoy adult wellness, supplemental accident, emergency reunion and complementary medicine like acupuncture. You will also have more coverage for outpatient visits, mental health, emergency evacuation and child wellness.
The Gold Plus level has all of the enhanced benefits of the Gold level, but they won’t be reduced after three years! This means if you want all of the benefits of the Gold level without the time restriction, you can have the same great benefits for years to come with the Gold Plus.
The Platinum level is the most comprehensive choice of the four levels. Expats who purchase the Platinum level can enjoy a higher lifetime maximum of $8,000,000 and less out of pocket expense. Other benefits that participants can enjoy with this plan include increased adult and child wellness, political evacuation and repatriation, enhanced mental health benefits, high school sports coverage, vision and dental. Also, unlike the other three levels, the Platinum comes standard with maternity coverage! If you are an expatriate looking for the most amount of coverage possible, the Platinum level is the right one for you.
When trying to decide which Global Medical plan level is right for you and your family, keep in mind that you will need to consider three factors: how long you will need your coverage, the benefits you want included in your plan and your budget. After you have established these three criteria, picking the right plan level will be easy.
