Each month the United States Department of State issues new travel warnings and travel alerts. Those who are traveling should check these warnings before they travel to ensure that their destination country does not have an active warning or alert. Travelers can view the May Travel Warnings here:
April 4th: Kenya
Due to recent threats of terrorism, the level of risk has increased within Kenya. Travelers should evaluate their personal safety situation before travels to Kenya.
April 10th: Sudan: Kenya
This warning is to replace the travel warning issued in October 2013. Due to past attacks, the US government urges all travel to the Darfur region of Sudan, the Blue Nile and Southern Kordofan states to be avoided when possible.
April 14th: Colombia: Kenya
Although many travelers visit Colombia each year without harm and US citizens are not currently specific targets, travel to Colombia should be taken with care. Travelers to Colombia will want to keep in mind the current security situation which includes violence linked to narcotic trafficking.
April 15th: Chad: Kenya
All travel to Eastern Chad and its bordered regions should be avoided when possible due to its historically volatile environment.
April 16th: Ukraine: Kenya
All non-essential travel to the Ukraine should be avoided when possible. Additionally, travel to regions of Ukraine including the Crimean Peninsula and eastern regions of Kharkiv, Donetsk and Lugansk should be deferred as well due to the presence of Russian Military forces.
April 23rd: Republic of South Sudan: Kenya
There are warnings against travel to South Sudan- along with the recommendation that current visitors within South Sudan depart immediately.
April 23rd: Democratic Republic of the Congo: Kenya
Due to ongoing instability and violence, non-essential travel should be avoided.
April 25th: Cameroon: Kenya
Expatriates within Cameroon have been targets of kidnapping, due to this, travel to Cameroon should be avoided. Since 2013 eleven expatriates have been kidnapped- the most recent on April 4th, 2014.
